Gender Differences in Academic Efficacy across STEM Fields

Cultural processes can reduce self-selection into math and science fields, but it remains unclear how confidence in computer develops, where women are currently the least represented STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Few studies evaluate both skills self-assessments of skill. In this paper, we gender differences efficacy across three fields using a data set middle schoolers, particularly consequential period for academic pathways. Even though girls boys do not significantly differ terms grades have similar levels skill, gap is twice as large math. We offer support disaggregation so unique meaning making around computing be addressed.
